Silicone Molding for Medical Devices

Silicone Molding is a widely utilized manufacturing process in the medical device industry, specifically for the production of various components such as catheters, tubing, connectors, and handles or grips. It encompasses two specific techniques, Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) molding and Silicone Transfer Molding (STM).

LSR molding involves injecting liquid silicone rubber into a mold cavity, which is often placed over electrical connections or a circuit board. The liquid silicone rubber then cures or solidifies to take on the desired shape. This process is ideal for components that are less sensitive to pressure or impact. One of the key advantages of LSR molding is its ability to achieve faster and more productive results, making it a preferred choice in situations where speed is crucial.

On the other hand, Silicone Transfer Molding caters to more delicate electrical connections or instruments. In this 2-step process, components are manually molded into shape. This approach offers a more gentle treatment, specifically suitable for scenarios where impact needs to be minimized.
