The piston rod enters the metering tube, and the damping medium flows from the pressure chamber through the throttle orifices in the metering tube into the volume balance chamber. The nitrogen gas between the outer tube and the metering tube is compressed, storing the energy required for the reset of the piston rod. When the piston rod returns to the initial position, the damping medium flows back into the pressure chamber.
